Dahi Handi is a lively Hindu festival celebrated a day after Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna. The festival's name comes from 'Dahi,' meaning 'curd,' and 'Handi,' meaning 'earthen pot.' During Dahi Handi, a pot filled with curd, butter, and other dairy products is hung high in the air. People form human pyramids to try to reach and break the pot, just as young Krishna would have done to get to the butter he loved. This year, Janmashtami was celebrated on 26th August and Dahi Handi is being celebrated on Tuesday, August 27. The festival is a joyful celebration of Krishna's playful nature and his love for butter, and it is enjoyed with great enthusiasm by people across India. In Mumbai, people celebrated Dahi Handi festival with much pomp and vigor at Ghatkopar, Dadar, Worli and other areas. Blind people also participated in Dahi Handi 2024 celebrations.
