As the air quality in Delhi continues to worsen, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage-IV restrictions were implemented from November 18 to combat the pollution crisis. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) activated this plan to reduce harmful pollution levels in Delhi-NCR. Key measures include banning non-essential trucks from entering Delhi, except for those carrying essential goods or providing important services. In addition, the Delhi government has suspended in-person classes for all students, except for those in classes 10 and 12, to protect their health. The Stage-IV action plan also includes other steps like increasing the use of air purifiers and limiting outdoor activities. The CAQM is closely monitoring air quality levels and will continue to review the situation, taking further action if necessary to improve conditions.
18 November,2024 03:04 PM ISTMumbai woke up to a foggy and hazy morning on Sunday, November 17, with a thick layer of mist covering the city. The Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded a level of 179, indicating a moderate level of pollution. Visuals from Marine Drive showed people out for their morning walks amid the dense fog. While many residents continued their routines, jogging and exercising, the pollution did raise concerns, particularly for those with respiratory issues. While the pollution level is not extremely high, experts caution that it could cause discomfort for vulnerable groups, including people with breathing problems. Authorities are advising everyone to take precautions, especially those with health concerns.

08 November,2024 07:04 PM ISTA thick layer of smog has settled over Marine Drive, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching a concerning 208, categorizing it as 'Poor.' Each year, the aftermath of Diwali fireworks draws attention to the city's deteriorating air quality. Residents are increasingly alarmed, as firecrackers contribute significantly to pollution levels. One Mumbai resident pointed out, "So many people are bursting firecrackers, and a lot of construction is going on, which is why the pollution is increasing." The combination of festive celebrations and ongoing construction exacerbates the already precarious air quality, prompting calls for greater awareness and action to mitigate the impact of such activities on health and the environment.
03 November,2024 11:05 AM ISTDelhi's Air Quality Index has worsened as winter approaches, raising concerns among residents. Toxic foam is seen floating on the Yamuna River, indicating high pollution levels in the water. This rising pollution is causing serious health problems, especially for senior citizens who are particularly vulnerable. Locals are worried about how the situation will deteriorate after Diwali, when firecrackers often add to the already poor air quality. With colder temperatures trapping pollutants closer to the ground, many fear that respiratory issues and other health problems will increase. Efforts to reduce pollution, such as limiting firecracker use and improving waste management, are crucial to protect public health. As winter sets in, the community hopes for effective measures to combat the pollution crisis and improve air and water quality for everyone in the National Capital.
19 October,2024 04:09 PM ISTOn October 18, Delhi faced rising air pollution, and toxic foam was spotted floating on the Yamuna River in Kalindi Kunj. This situation raised health concerns among residents. Last year, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal promised to clean the Yamuna River before the 2025 Delhi assembly elections. However, with the elections approaching, the current state of the river suggests that this promise remains unfulfilled. The contrast between Kejriwal's assurances and the reality of the polluted river has sparked discussions among the people of Delhi, who are worried about both air quality and the condition of their rivers. As the elections get closer, many are questioning the government's efforts to tackle these environmental issues.
18 October,2024 01:40 PM ISTWorld Environment Day 2024: Rochelle Rao and Keith Sequeira put on their gloves and dug out all the trash trapped in the sand at Mumbai’s Juhu beach, while their baby Josephine observed from afar. Rochelle’s frown and concern were visible as she pointed out the beautiful shells and the heaps of plastic around asking which of the two belonged there. “The beach is where our heart is. When I see the beach in this state, in my city, I feel like it's 100 percent my responsibility to do something about it. It's 10 minutes away from my house and it's a few hours of my time. So, this is close to my heart,” she said. Watch the video for more.
05 June,2024 03:59 PM ISTThe odd-even scheme in Delhi is about to make a comeback. In Delhi, the air quality is in the 'Severe' category as per the Central Pollution Control Board. To tackle the Delhi air pollution, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on November 06 announced the implementation of the Odd-Even scheme. The Odd-Even scheme will be applicable for one week from 13th to 20th November. Cars whose number plates end with odd numbers – 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 – will be allowed to ply on odd-numbered dates. On the other hand, vehicles whose number plates end with even numbers – 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 – will be allowed to ply on even-numbered dates. Stubble burning in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana is credited for creating smog in Delhi.
