Bringing a much needed relief to the commuters in Mumbai, Mumbai Metro 3 Phase 1 started its services on October 7. Connecting BKC(Bandra Kurla Complex) to Aarey, this metro service has come as a big relief to the commuters travelling on the western line. Developed at a cost of 32,000 crores, this is Mumbai’s first fully underground metro. In this first phase - around 12 km stretch has been inaugurated between Aarey Colony and BKC. In the subsequent phase - this stretch will be total of around 33 kms between Colaba - Arey and Seepz. This is known to be one of the most challenging projects for the authorities. Running on 33.5 km, Mumbai Metro’s Aqua Line is one of the longest underground continuous metro stretches in India and first underground metro of Mumbai city. 07 October,2024 03:44 PM ISTThe test run of Metro line 2A and 7 began on May 31. and will reportedly go on for four to five months. After this, the first phase will start in October and both the lines will be completely operational by January 2022, according to officials. On May 31, the metro reached Akurli Metro Station in Kandivli for the inauguration of the trial run program. The test run began around 12:30pm and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was present for the same. Mid-Day photojournalists documented the historic moments. Watch this video.
