Blinken to visit Middle East for 11th time since Gaza war to defuse conflicts

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken left for the Middle East on October 21 to start talks for a ceasefire in the Gaza war. This is his eleventh visit to the region since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to the conflict. His trip comes as Israel increases its military actions in Gaza and against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Vedant Patel, a deputy spokesperson for the State Department, said Blinken will begin his trip in Israel but did not share other specific stops. During his visit, Blinken aims to discuss ending the war in Gaza, securing the release of all hostages, and reducing the suffering of the Palestinian people.

‘Covid-19 Not Over Yet’, Mansukh Mandaviya Cautions India Amid Surge In Cases

Amid challenge posed by the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in some countries including China, Japan, South Korea, France and United States, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the Covid-19 situation in India and preparedness of public health system for surveillance, containment and management of Covid-19. Emphasising that Covid-19 is not over yet, he asked the officials to be fully geared up and strengthen surveillance. The Health Minister also wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi after Covid positive cases were found in the Bharat Jodo Yatra and Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh also tested positive for Covid. Several congress ministers have criticised the minister’s decision and are saying this is an attempt to stop the Bharat Jodo Yatra. While BJP leaders are urging them to follow the protocols.
