While speaking on Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita Bills 2023 in Lok Sabha, BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur on December 20 supported the Bills and made a fiery speech in the Parliament. She also lambasted Congress and opposition leaders for opposing the Bills. The Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita bill seeks to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860, which is the principal law on criminal offence in India. The new bill adds community service as a form of punishment. The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, 2023 seeks to replace the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 (CrPC). The CrPC provides for the procedure for arrest, prosecution, and bail. The Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill, 2023 (BSB2) replaces the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.

"Instead of Rajdroh, we have introduced Deshdroh. We are a free country now. Nobody will have to go to jail for criticising individuals. But no one can speak against the country. I believe those who speak against the country should go to jail," Amit Shah said. Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) Bill was passed in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
