The Asia-Pacific UNESCO awards were announced in Bangkok on November 26. India boasts of 40 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in different parts of the country. As many as 32 of them are cultural sites, seven of them are natural and one is of the mixed criteria, which includes both natural and cultural elements. Interestingly, some of these like the Taj Mahal are also one of the wonders of the world, and closer to Mumbai, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, The Victorian and Art Deco Ensemble and the Elephanta Caves are also on the list. It also aims to encourage private property owners to undertake such projects within their communities. This year, the jury reviewed 57 entries from as many as 14 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
