Stone-pelting at Ganesh Pandal sparks communal tensions, All accused arrested

Tension surged in Surat's Sayedpura area in the early Monday morning, September 9, after a group of minors threw stones at a Ganesh pandal. The incident triggered a strong reaction from locals, who gathered outside a nearby police station demanding immediate action. In response, a heavy police force was deployed to the scene, where officers used lathi charges and tear gas to disperse the angry crowd and restore order. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi visited the area and confirmed that six individuals directly involved in the stone-throwing have been arrested. Additionally, Sanghvi revealed that 27 other people who had encouraged the incident were also taken into custody. Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Gehlot assured that all those responsible for disturbing the peace are being apprehended. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure continued peace and security in the affected area. Raksha Bandhan 2024: Gujarat govt supports women entrepreneurs with free stalls

In Gujarat, the state government is offering women a unique opportunity this Raksha Bandhan by providing free business stalls in Surat. As part of the initiative, Surat Municipal Corporation has allocated 101 stalls at no cost to women, generating 1010 direct jobs. Additionally, the government is supporting these entrepreneurs with loans ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 to aid in setting up their Rakhi stalls. The initiative also includes training through "Sakhi Mandal" to ensure women acquire essential skills for successful business operations. This effort aims to empower women and enhance their economic prospects during the festive season. A Rakhi seller said, “Govt is giving women like us to move forward in our lives. We get these kinds of opportunities in Rakhi Mela, and Navaratri Mela. We also get loans according to our need to purchase materials. Because of these stalls we get new recognition.”

On July 07, the death toll from the Surat building collapse reached three as rescue teams from SDRF and NDRF recovered bodies from the debris. Despite ongoing efforts, 6-7 individuals are feared trapped under the rubble. The six-storey building, located in Gujarat's Sachin area, collapsed on July 06. Of the building's 30 flats, 4-5 were occupied while the remainder were vacant during the incident. Rescue operations continue unabated as authorities work tirelessly to locate and extricate those still missing, highlighting the urgent need for swift and effective response in such devastating emergencies.
