During his visit to Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a scheme that provides free solar power to homes. This initiative aims to help one crore households across India install rooftop solar units and generate their own electricity. Approved on February 29, 2024, the scheme has a budget of Rs 75,021 crore and will run until the financial year 2026-27. It seeks to increase the use of solar energy and empower families to harness clean electricity. Implementation will be managed by the National Programme Implementation Agency (NPIA) at the national level and State Implementation Agencies (SIAs) at the state level. Beneficiaries shared how this program has positively affected their lives, making energy more accessible and affordable.

On 16th September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investment Meet & Expo (RE-INVEST 2024) and flagged off the 20.8 km corridor of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase II. This phase extends the North-South Metro Corridor from Phase I, featuring a mainline from APMC to Motera, extending to Mahatma Mandir, and a branch line from GNLU to GIFT City. The project includes an 8 km corridor with 8 stations, highlighted by a 15.4 km viaduct from Motera to Sector 1 with 6 stations. The initiative aims to enhance urban mobility and sustainable infrastructure, with a total investment of ₹3,284 crores. Following the flag-off, PM Modi traveled on the newly inaugurated train.

Vadodara: 11-ft-long Crocodile rescued from the floods

Due to incessant rains, Gujarat’s Vadodara faced heavy flooding and as a result it has led to some risky rescue and relief operations. Forest Department rescued the crocodile seen on the campus of the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in Gujarat’s Vadodara on August 29. The crocodile was 11- feet long and the forest department successfully rescued the crocodile in flooded Vadodara. Range Forest Officer Karansinh Rajput said, "... We have rescued 10 crocodiles in the last 5 days. Two have been released and 8 are still with us. We will release them when the water level of the river decreases... Today, we rescued a 14-foot crocodile from a house near Kamnath Mahadev temple, one from near the Ratri Bazar and an 11-foot crocodile from the Zoology Department of the MS University..."

Jhaveri highlighted the severity of the situation, emphasizing that the intense rainfall and high water levels made the causeway extremely hazardous. The SDRF is working tirelessly to ensure all individuals are safely brought to safety. Of the building's 30 flats, 4-5 were occupied while the remainder were vacant during the incident. Rescue operations continue unabated as authorities work tirelessly to locate and extricate those still missing, highlighting the urgent need for swift and effective response in such devastating emergencies.
