India beat Great Britain 4-2 in shootout, Know the man behind the victory

Veteran custodian PR Sreejesh emerged as a hero as India pulled off a nail-biting 4 to 2 win in the shoot-out against Great Britain on 4th august at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 36 year old veteran made several crucial saves, including key stops during the penalty shootout, helping India secure a thrilling win in the quarterfinals. With 328 international caps and appearances at three Olympic Games, Sreejesh is competing in his fourth and final Olympics in Paris, having announced his retirement after these Games. Born on May 8, 1986, in Ernakulam, Kerala, Sreejesh comes from a farming family and initially trained in sprinting, volleyball, and long jump before switching to hockey on his coach’s advice. He made his junior international debut in 2004 against Australia and his senior debut at the 2006 South Asian Games. Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey praised Sreejesh’s performance, calling him the “god of Indian Hockey.” Sreejesh’s wife Aneeshya also praised his game and expressed hope for a gold medal this time.

Watch: Tejas MK-1A successfully completes its maiden flight

In a historic milestone, indigenous LCA Mark 1A fighter aircraft on March 28 completed its first flight. The aircraft airborne for 15 minutes during its first maiden flight, as per Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Currently, two squadrons of IAF, 45 Squadron and 18 Squadron, are fully operational with LCA Tejas. HAL has current capacity to build 8 LCA aircraft per year, this is being increased to 16 aircraft's every year by 2025. In coming years the capacity will be further increased to 24 aircraft every year in the next 3 years. Over Rs 9000 crore have been sanctioned for the development of LCA Mk 2, an updated and advanced version of LCA Tejas. Earlier in the 2023, Air Chief Marshal stated that the Indian Air Force aims to replace the MiG-21 fighter jets with LCA Tejas.

Mumbai’s Mini-Goa Vasai gets a new Vasai-Bhayandar Ro-Ro ferry service

There has been a significant upgrade in Mumbai’s infrastructure in the recent times and a brand new RO-RO ferry survive is the latest addition. A new Vasai-Bhayandar Ro-Ro ferry service will be running on a regular basis from 21st February between Vasai and Bhayandar that is going to cut down the commute time between the two destinations to 15 minutes. This is the second RoRo service in the MMR. The first one operates on the Ferry Wharf and Mandwa route. The newly-inaugurated service will ply eight times a day. Goa police is likely to take Suchana Seth, the CEO of a start-up who is accused of killing her four-year-old child, to a service apartment where she had stayed to recreate the crime scene. This is required as part of the investigation into the Goa murder case. Goa DGP Jaspal Singh also revealed that the blood stains, on the basis of which the police were asked to investigate the case, were of Seth, who had a cut mark on her wrist. The Goa top cop said that Seth has not been cooperating with the investigating agencies. Seth was arrested on Monday night at Chitradurga district in Karnataka while she was trying to flee after killing her four year old son in a service apartment at Candolim. The accused was found with the body stuffed in the bag.
