Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, Chief Medical Officer of the Indian team, detailed the situation, explaining that Phogat’s weight was 2.7 kg over the limit after the semi-finals. The team employed various methods to reduce her weight, including dehydration techniques, exercise, and cutting her hair. Scheduled to compete against Sarah Ann Hildebrandt for the Gold Medal, Vinesh was found to be 100 grams overweight for her weight category. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised her as a “Champion among Champions,” calling her India's pride and an inspiration to every Indian. PM Modi conveyed his message: “You are India's pride and inspiration…” Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh expressed regret over the situation, stating, "It is extremely unfortunate for our country that even after wrestling so well and qualifying for the finals, she was disqualified for being overweight by 100 grams. The Government of India has provided her with a coach, nutritionist, and physio. All of them are with her in the games village. Her weight was constant for two days but increased overnight.
