Uttarkashi Tunnel Rescue: Spine-Chilling account of a worker trapped inside

Rescue operations are underway for the fifth day to rescue the 40 trapped workers. An under-construction tunnel between Silkyara, Dandalgaon on Brahmakhal-Yamunotri NH collapsed in the early hours of Nov 12. A worker from Jharkhand, Vishwajeet is trapped in the tunnel along with 40 laborers. His brother Indrajeet talked to him through and encouraged him to stay strong. Indrajeet, a resident of Jharkhand, whose 38-year-old brother Vishwajeet is trapped in the tunnel of Uttarkashi along with 40 laborers. While talking to ANI, Indrajeet said that he had talked to Vishwajeet through pipeline. Vishwajeet trapped in the tunnel told that food and water is available inside the tunnel. Indrajeet assured his brother Vishwajeet that soon all the workers trapped in the tunnel would come out and they would go to their village in Jharkhand to celebrate Chhath Puja. Union Minister Vijay Kumar Singh reviewed the Uttarkashi tunnel rescue operations in the under-construction tunnel in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi on November 16. Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar says, "...Best possible efforts are being made here - by the agencies of Central Government and State Government. I think we should be patient and have faith. It will take time but the best possible efforts are being made..."

Union Minister VK Singh reacts to Anantnag Encounter

Union Minister and former Army chief General VK Singh on Thursday stressed the need to isolate Pakistan. Singh's statement came as he responded to reporters on the death of Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak and DSP Humayun Bhat, during the Anantnag encounter in Jammu and Kashmir. The commanding officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles, a major rank officer and a Deputy superintendent of police were killed in an encounter with the terrorists at Gadole in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district on Wednesday. Security was beefed up in the Kokeranag area after the Anantnag encounter.

Army Chief General VK Singh has said neither he nor anyone from the defence services leaked his letter to the Prime Minister. "I don't know who leaked it. I know and my men know that Army did not leak it," General Singh told NDTV. The Army Chief also said that all controversies that broke out during his tenure were 'perceived'. Speaking to NDTV General Singh said, "My tenure was eventful, all controversies were perceived. Controversies got manufactured. A lot of things were fed to the papers and the media.
