Islamabad is on high alert as protests against the Anti-government sentiments continued in Pakistan. PTI supporters continued to protest for the release of former PM Imran Khan. Supporters of jailed Imran Khan gathered for an anti-government rally in defiance of a ban on the congregation in Islamabad. Over 80 police personnel have been injured in clashes with supporters of Imran Khan in Islamabad. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told journalists that the convoy fired on the police and continuously used teargas. He said while the convoy was heavily armed, the police had been instructed not to carry weapons to prevent the situation from escalating. Authorities have sealed off Islamabad and blocked cellphone services to prevent the gathering. Islamabad is on high alert ahead of a series of top-level diplomatic events scheduled over the next two weeks. Notably, it was the latest in a series of protest rallies since last month to press for Khan's release and agitate against the ruling coalition. They criticized political parties for politicizing the issue by claiming that the government intends to seize people's properties. Both scholars dismissed these claims, stating that the government's focus is on the development of all sections of society. They also pointed out that the Sachar Committee had previously recommended that the government make certain changes and amendments regarding Waqf.

US President said “xenophobia” from China, India, and Japan is stopping the economic growth of these countries. President Joe Biden made this controversial remark while advocating for the US immigration policy. He said, “Folks, this election is about freedom, America, and democracy. That’s why I badly need you. You know, one of the reasons why our economy is growing is because of you and many others. Why? Because we welcome immigrants. We look to — the reason — look, think about it. Why is China stalling so badly economically? Why is Japan having trouble? Why is Russia? Why is India? Because they’re xenophobic. They don’t want immigrants.” The remarks, from Joe Biden came after The White House hosted Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for a State visit. Notably, The White House welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a state visit last summer. However, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre defended President Biden’s statement. She said that the President’s comments were part of a broader message emphasising the strength of America's immigrant heritage. The Committee on External Affairs presented their 28th report on ‘Countering Global Terrorism at Regional and International Levels’. The report emphasised an action plan and mechanism to root out terrorist networks in the neighbouring countries. The Central Government banned SIMI for another five years as an 'unlawful association' under the UAPA. Ministry of Home Affairs took action by exercising the powers conferred by the provisions of UAPA. MHA had declared SIMI as unlawful association on Sept 27, 2001, and it later kept on extending the ban. SIMI “continuing to be involved in fomenting terrorism, disturbing peace, communal harmony in India”. Many criminal cases have been registered against SIMI and its members under various sections of IPC. Home Minister Amit Shah said that SIMI ban is part of PM Modi Government's 'zero tolerance' policy.

The remaining 2% said they were “not too free” to practice their religion, with virtually no one answering “not at all free”. As per its website, Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan fact tank that talks about the issues, attitudes, trends shaping the world. In an Opinion piece by Washington Examiner, American Sociologist Salvatore Babones quoted this info from Pew Research. He compared the situation of minorities in India and the US, from where several reports questioning India’s democracy are published. Notably, US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) in its annual report proposed to blacklist India. USCIRF recommended 17 countries (including India) to the State Department to be designated as ‘Countries of Particular Concern’. As per Pew Research Center’s survey, 95% of Muslims said that they were “proud to be Indian”.
18 June,2023 03:20 PM ISTFormer Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested on Tuesday by Pakistani Rangers outside the Islamabad High Court. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief was taken into custody in connection with the Al Qadir Trust case, for which the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had summoned him multiple times. The leader had earlier posted a video on his twitter handle saying, he is ready for the arrest. Islamabad IGP Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, told Pakistani media outlets that the situation is under control. Meanwhile, the PTI shared photos of Imran Khan’s lawyer claiming he was injured in a scuffle during the arrest of the PTI chief.
