One Mumbai resident pointed out, "So many people are bursting firecrackers, and a lot of construction is going on, which is why the pollution is increasing." The combination of festive celebrations and ongoing construction exacerbates the already precarious air quality, prompting calls for greater awareness and action to mitigate the impact of such activities on health and the environment.

Delhi Air Pollution: Delhi govt. brings back Odd-Even post-Diwali

The odd-even scheme in Delhi is about to make a comeback. In Delhi, the air quality is in the 'Severe' category as per the Central Pollution Control Board. To tackle the Delhi air pollution, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on November 06 announced the implementation of the Odd-Even scheme. The Odd-Even scheme will be applicable for one week from 13th to 20th November. Cars whose number plates end with odd numbers – 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 – will be allowed to ply on odd-numbered dates. On the other hand, vehicles whose number plates end with even numbers – 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 – will be allowed to ply on even-numbered dates. Stubble burning in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana is credited for creating smog in Delhi.

The overall AQI of the city stood at 301. Global warming and natural seasonal transitions have been credited for Mumbai’s smog. People have been advised to avoid prolonged outdoor visits. On the other hand, in Delhi, The air quality in Delhi is in the 'Severe' category as per the Central Pollution Control Board. While stubble burning in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana are credited for creating smog in Delhi, in Punjab’s Firozpur, the stubble burning continued.

A thick layer of smog shrouded Delhi on November 03 as air quality was recorded in the ‘severe’ category. The latest capture of Signature Bridge in Delhi from ANI’s drone camera at 10 a.m. showed the severity of the pollution.  The Air Quality Index is a tool for effective communication of air quality status to people in terms that are easy to understand. There are six AQI categories, namely Good, Satisfactory, Moderately polluted, Poor, Very Poor, and Severe. As per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the overall Air Quality Index stood at 346.
