With the upcoming Maharashtra Elections 2024, the war of words between the ruling government and the opposition is getting intense day by day. In a recent rally in Kurla, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde said, "The opposition parties say they will stop Ladli Behna Yojana. What reply will you give to them? ...They went to Mumbai High Court but got rejected; the people of MVA went to Nagpur Court to stop the Ladli Behna Yojana. They say they will stop Ladli Behna Yojana and other schemes... They say that giving money to Ladli Behna is a crime; I am ready to commit such a crime not once but ten times."
04 November,2024 11:35 AM ISTAt a press conference in Mumbai on November 2, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC responded to Sanjay Raut's defense of Arvind Sawant, who had made disrespectful comments about her. Raut claimed Sawant didn't need to apologize because she is "imported." Shaina NC criticized Raut, saying that if he thinks the term "maal" is acceptable, it shows his mindset. She also questioned the official position of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), pointing out the contradiction between Sawant's apology and Raut's claim that no apology was needed. “I want to ask Shiv Sena (UBT) about Sanjay Raut's statement. Why the confusion?” she asked, highlighting the inconsistency in their responses to the issue.
03 November,2024 12:52 PM ISTA thick layer of smog has settled over Marine Drive, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching a concerning 208, categorizing it as 'Poor.' Each year, the aftermath of Diwali fireworks draws attention to the city's deteriorating air quality. Residents are increasingly alarmed, as firecrackers contribute significantly to pollution levels. One Mumbai resident pointed out, "So many people are bursting firecrackers, and a lot of construction is going on, which is why the pollution is increasing." The combination of festive celebrations and ongoing construction exacerbates the already precarious air quality, prompting calls for greater awareness and action to mitigate the impact of such activities on health and the environment.
03 November,2024 11:05 AM ISTIn a significant development on October 31, former home minister Anil Deshmukh's son, Salil Deshmukh, is set to contest the Assembly election from Katol near Nagpur on a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket. He will face off against Anil Shankarrao Deshmukh, whose candidacy was endorsed by the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP. This situation is complicated by the presence of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Charansingh Thakur, who registered early in the nomination process. The returning officer has cleared Anil Shankarrao Deshmukh's nomination despite objections from Salil Deshmukh. Analysts suggest that the namesake’s entry could split votes in a three-way contest, as Anil Shankarrao will be using the NCP's well-known clock symbol, which has been associated with the constituency since 1999. In contrast, Salil Deshmukh will compete under a new symbol featuring a man blowing a turra, which lacks the same recognition. Additionally, former minister Shrikant Jichkar's son, Yajnavalkya, and his mother, Rajshree, have filed nominations as independents, although Rajshree is expected to withdraw. Former MP Subodh Mohite’s nomination has also been cleared.
