Students from multiple schools walked out to join the demonstration, organised by pro-Palestinian groups, demanding cease-fire in Gaza.
The protest was the latest in a series of near-nightly demonstrations since the start of the war. Thousands have marched through Midtown Manhattan to protest Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
Aside from the plea for a cease-fire, the demonstrators demanded that the United States withdraw its support, citing what they termed as Israeli genocide.
The gathering commenced at the New York Public Library in Midtown, evolving into a march towards the New York Times building. Protesters entered the building, seeking greater accountability from the editors regarding their coverage of the war.
Subsequently, the protesters exited the building and slowly marched back to the library's steps.
The Israel-Hamas war, now in its second month, originated from the October 7 Hamas attack into southern Israel.
The war has resulted in significant casualties, with over 10,818 Palestinians killed in Gaza, including more than 4,400 children.
In the occupied West Bank, over 160 Palestinians lost their lives, and in Israel, 1,200 people were killed, primarily due to the Hamas attack, with 239 hostages taken from Israel into Gaza by the militant group.
