The video of an Indian Embassy official in New York, USA, misbehaving with a woman applicant applying for an urgent visa has gone viral on social media, with netizens criticizing the man for his rude behaviour. The woman had visited the consulate in New York to get a visa a day after her father’s death.

The video shows the officer shouting at the applicant while she is asking him to explain why her application was being rejected. The officer also returns her documents and asks the applicant to leave.
Talk show host and actor Simi Garewal shared the clip on Twitter and termed the official’s behaviour as “obnoxious”. “Her father had died and she wanted a Visa for India. @DrSJaishankar @MEAIndia @PMOIndia, you can’t ignore this,” Garewal wrote on social media.

The Consulate General of India, New York, posted a statement on their Twitter handle saying that it has “decided to institute disciplinary provisions against the concerned officer” and that the Consulate general has personally reviewed the whole incident.

Twitterati, however, was divided over the whole incident. While some condemned the officer’s behaviour, others said there is more to it than meets the eye.
"These people forget that they are government servants," said one.
"Have heard many horror stories of appalling behaviour at the New York embassy. This isn't the first time I would think," commented another.
Some social media users, however, said that the woman "didn't share what happened before the video was shot," and "nobody knows the whole story."
"Old incident. Pretty sure the lady recording the video conveniently didn't share what transpired before this fracas," said a user.
"Okay! It was a misconduct. But do you know the whole story? I mean there have been times when people are falsely accused," replied another.
