Vladimir Putin

A man who made money posing as a doppelganger of Vladimir Putin says he fears for his life after the Russian president ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Slawek Sobola, 53, has spent the past eight years professionally impersonating 69-year-old Putin and has travelled to the US, the UK and Hong Kong for special gigs. Sobola, who hails from the city of Wroclaw in south-western Poland, said he has earned “good money” parodying the president, but is now concerned that locals will turn on him.

“Before the war, I wasn’t afraid for my safety on the streets, but now… I’m a little afraid because in Wroclaw, a lot of people from Ukraine live and work,” the infamous celebrity lookalike added. “There have been many times that people told me I look like Putin, and now because of the war, I’m a little afraid that these people could be angry or aggressive when they see me,” he further explained.

Sobola says he used to “respect” Putin, but his opinion has changed since the war in Ukraine began last week. He has vowed to no longer impersonate Putin, saying he does not want to profit from the conflict. “This war is no good and I do not think about earning money from it,” he said. “I had a lot of respect for him [Putin], but now I think that this man did a lot of harm and I do not know today how I will play his role in the future. [In] this situation, I am standing with Ukraine. I think that they have to fight.”

Meanwhile, Sobola’s wife is relieved that he has stopped the Putin parodies, admitting they often made her “uncomfortable.” “Sometimes it’s funny when we do this job and we meet other lookalikes and have fun,” she stated, adding, “But sometimes it gets uncomfortable, especially when we are with family on a holiday, by the beach or in a restaurant or bar, people touch him and say, ‘Hey, hey, you look like Putin, can I get a picture with you?’”

When asked what he would say to Putin if he came face to face with him, Sobola said, “I would ask him to look at me and think how we can have the same face, but perceive the world differently.”

Toddler with ‘uncombable’ hair

Locklan, a child from Atlanta has a rare condition that makes his soft and fuzzy hair stand straight up

A Georgia mother is campaigning to spread awareness and positivity after her one-year-old son, Locklan, was diagnosed with Uncombable Hair Syndrome (UHS)—a rare condition afflicting about 100 people around the world. Katelyn and her husband Caleb, first noticed something was wrong when Locklan turned five months old and his hair started to grow. “It was coming in straight up and so soft and fuzzy. As it continued to grow, it never laid down” said Katelyn. “Hearing that your son has a genetic ‘condition’ isn’t easy, especially when it’s so rare that there isn’t a lot of information on it, but as I learned more about it and connected with other parents around the world [in a UHS Facebook group], I became less scared and more appreciative of how unique Locklan is,” she said. “Other than wild and crazy cool hair, he is perfectly healthy and very happy!”

Fat as a child ? You will age faster

People who were obese, smoked daily or had a psychological disorder during their adolescence years could age faster. The revelation was made in a study published in the journal, JAMA Paediatrics. As part of the study, a group of international authors analysed data from 910 participants of New Zealand’s Dunedin, who were born between April 1972 and March 1973, tracking their health and behaviour from age three to 45. They found that participants with the above-mentioned health concerns walked slower and had their brain and appearance aged by two and four years.

It was one of the more unusual “bring your child to work” days. A video captured the heart-warming moment when a zookeeper introduced her new baby to her gorillas in a series of inter-species play dates. The video has collectively amassed over 30 million viral views on TikTok as of this week. “The sweetest boy meeting my sweet baby for the first time,” Kate the zookeeper, who didn’t disclose her last name, captioned the flagship clip, which she reportedly shot at her undisclosed zoo 10 weeks into her maternity leave.

A pair of pigs escaped from their backyard pen in Florida, leading police and neighbours on an hour-long chase through the neighbourhood. Residents said the pigs escaped in Lehigh Acres, and the porcine fugitives were on the loose for more than 12 hours. Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies, neighbours and Randy Love, a cousin of the animals’ owner, chased the pigs around the neighbourhood. The second pig is still on the run.

The mountain lion was spotted wandering near Country Club Lane in Selma. California Department of Fish and Wildlife tranquillised and trapped him to later release him back into the Kings National Forest.

A Congolese man proved that good things come in threes when he married triplets, all on the same day, after they all reportedly proposed to him simultaneously. “It seemed like I was dreaming!” said Luwizo. When the husband-to-be met one of the triplets he quickly fell in love.  However, things took a turn after she introduced him to her twin sisters, who became equally smitten by him.
