Johnson & Johnson released data showing that a booster dose to its one-shot coronavirus vaccine provides a strong immune response months after people receive a first dose. J&J said in statement Tuesday that it ran two early studies in people previously given its vaccine and found that a second dose produced an increased antibody response in adults from age 18 to 55. The study’s results haven’t yet been peer-reviewed.

“A booster dose of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine further increases antibody responses among study participants who had previously received our vaccine,” said Dr Mathai Mammen, global head of research and development at J&J.  The company is in talks with regulators including the US Food and Drug Administration, the European Medicines Agency and others regarding using booster doses of its vaccine.

German arrested for murder after mask dispute

Police in Germany say a 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the shooting dead of a gas station clerk following a dispute over face masks. Authorities in the city of Trier said late Monday that the suspect told officers he acted ‘out of anger’ after he went to a gas station in Idar-Oberstein on Saturday to buy beer and the 20-year-old clerk asked him to put on a mask before being served. He further stated that he rejected the measures against  coronavirus, police said. According to police, the suspect initially left the gas station after the dispute but then returned half an hour later wearing a mask and fatally shot the clerk in the head.

Man who ‘captured’ Rodney King thrashing dies of Covid-19

George Holliday, who in 1991 filmed the brutal beating of Rodney King by the LA police, has died of Covid-19 complications, the Washington Post tweeted. Holliday was woken up by a traffic stop outside his home on the night of March 3. He went out to film it with his new video camera, and caught the four white Los Angeles officers punching, kicking and using a stun gun on King, who was black, even after he was on the ground. The film was used as evidence in the trial of the officers. When they were acquitted, violence broke out in the city and over 60 people died in it. King later sued Los Angeles for the beating and was awarded $3.8 million. He died in 2012. Holliday tried to auction the Sony camcorder he used to shoot the beating, in 2020, but it’s unclear if he sold it.
