President Joe Biden reaffirmed the United States' steadfast and unwavering support for Israel in the wake of recent attacks by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Speaking from the White House, President Biden emphasized Israel's right to defend itself and its citizens, condemning the "terrorist assaults" that have resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives, PTI reported.

Over the weekend, Hamas launched a barrage of rocket attacks on Israel, marking one of the most significant escalations in decades, resulting in over 200 casualties in Israel. In response, Israel conducted a series of airstrikes on Gaza, resulting in more than 230 reported casualties.

The United States swiftly initiated a major global diplomatic effort to rally support for Israel and take necessary actions against Hamas, which caught many by surprise with its attack.

President Biden stated unequivocally, "In the face of these assaults, Israel has the right to defend itself and its people. Full stop. There's never a justification for terrorist attacks, and my administration's support for Israel's security is rock solid and unwavering."

He also urged caution against exploiting the situation for political gain, emphasizing that the world is closely monitoring the developments.

President Biden disclosed that he had been in communication with the King of Jordan and members of Congress. He also directed his national security team to engage with Israeli counterparts to ensure they have the necessary support.

He added, "I've also directed my team to remain in constant contact with leaders throughout the region, including Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, the UAE, as well as our European partners and the Palestinian Authority."

Recognizing the human tragedy underlying the conflict, President Biden commented, "It is also a terrible tragedy on a human level."

He further described the distressing scenes witnessed worldwide, with thousands of rockets raining down on Israeli cities in a matter of hours.

Earlier in the day, President Biden held multiple meetings with his national security team, including National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, where he received a comprehensive briefing on the situation and developments.

A senior administration official highlighted the close coordination between the United States and Israel, with President Biden expressing his full support. "The bottom line, as the President said, is the United States stands with Israel. The United States unequivocally condemns the appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza."

Regarding support for Israel during this critical time, the official affirmed, "We have a very close partnership with Israel. We always share timely intelligence about threats in the regions with Israel and other partners but in particular with Israel. The President directed his team to ensure providing all that support for Israel that it needs now." (With inputs from PTI)
