British flagship MV Asian Glory, with 25 crew members including five Indians, was hijacked off the Somali coast on Friday, an Indian maritime authority said on Saturday.

Further details of the incident and the list of crew members of four different nationalities on board the ship were awaited, the DGS said.

India-bound chemical tanker hijacked

Somali pirates captured a Singaporean chemical tanker with 24 crew members in the Gulf of Aden on January 1, 2010. The 150-metre long, 20,000-tonne MT Parmoni was on its way from Italy to India when it was boarded on Friday and forced to turn towards the Somali coast, according to the European Union's Atalanta mission, based in Northwood, Britain. The crew includes 17 Indonesians, five Chinese, one Nigerian and one Vietnamese.

"We're trying to contact the ship and look into the safety of the crew," said au00a0 spokesperson for the ship owners, GBLT Ship Management Pvt Ltd.
