Invented in 1974, by Hungarian Architect and professor of Architecture, Erno Rubik, the cube achieved worldwide recognition and still remains popular among people of all ages. Initially named Magic Cube, it was licenced to Ideal Toy Corp in 1980.
Buyoyed by the success of the cube, Rubik also went on to invent a few more puzzle games. However, none could match the success achieved by the cube.
The impact of the invention is such that it has managed to sell over 350 million cubes across the world within this time. The human record of solving the Rubik's Cube in the fastest time belongs to Mats Valk of The Netherlands, who achieved this feat in 5.5 seconds.
