Of course I'm nervous: Kate

Getting married in front of two billion people would make anyone a bit jittery.

Kate Middleton confessed as much on Monday to a well-wisher as she and William made their last final public appearance before tying the knot.

She told fans she could not believe the date had come around so soon.

And as the crowds clamoured to meet her and shake her hand, worker Amanda Wood managed to get Kate to open up about walking down the aisle.

admitted having some nerves about the wedding

The 46-year-old revealed, "I asked her if she was nervous about her wedding. And she said 'Yes of course I am'."

It was only a week ago Prince William admitted he was also a bit jumpy about the big day.

Wills revealed his knees were "tapping" during a rehearsal for the wedding. When asked what part he was nervous about, he joked, "The whole thing."

Kate was looking very slender on Monday as she and the prince arrived in the pouring rain to open Darwen Aldridge Community Academy in Darwen.

"We said hello", said Margaret, another well-wisher. "And I said to her I wish you all the best with your wedding. And she said 'Yes I can't believe it's coming very soon now'."

"Kate and William are a lovely couple and we're very honoured they've come to this part of the country. It was a bit of a surprise when we found out."

Smiling, laughing and bending down to talk to children, Kate charmed the community as police in uniform and plain clothes controlled the excited crowds.

Three-year-old Isla Yardley was at the afternoon visit with her grandmother Sandra Hubbersley.

Just one month ago on an engagement in Belfast, Kate told a member of the crowd she's on a wedding diet.

Well-wisher Heather Lindsay said she told her not to lose any more weight and the bride-to-be revealed it was "all part of the wedding plan".

Her comments, and the fact she is looking increasingly slender, have led some commentators to voice worries over her weight. But royal aides are quick to dampen any suggestion there is reason for concern.
