An Indian man in America has been sentenced to a year in prison for sexually abusing a female passenger sleeping next to him on a flight

An Indian man in America has been sentenced to a year in prison for sexually abusing a female passenger sleeping next to him on a flight


Ramesh Advani was sentenced on Monday in US District Court in Newark, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.


Advani was seated next to the victim on an overnight Continental Airlines flight, from Hong Kong to Newark, in May 2010.


Advani admitted he reached under a blanket covering the woman and assaulted her.

The Woman awoke and alerted the flight crew, and Advani was detained when the plane landed.

Advani, who pleaded guilty in April to a charge of abusive sexual contact, has been fined 10,000 US dollars, and must serve five years of supervised release once he''s freed.
