Karachi: The perpetrators of the Bacha Khan University in Pakistan were in contact with their handlers through a number from Afghanistan during the attack that killed 21 people, Director-General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Asim Saleem Bajwa said.

General Bajwa said the terrorists were continuously conversing on their mobile phones, two of which they have recovered and collected data from.

He said the SIMs used in the phones were of Afghan origin. He added that a mobile phone recovered from one of the attackers was receiving calls even after he had been killed.

The ISPR chief said as many as 52 security personnel were present on the campus when the attack began. Some of these officials resisted the attackers, which saved many lives.

However, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said yesterday that it is too early to draw conclusions regarding who was behind the deadly attack.

”It is premature to draw any conclusion as to who may be behind the Charsada university attack before investigations are complete,” Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah said.
