Amjad Sabri: One of Pakistan’s finest Sufi Qawwals best known for his soul-stirring renditions of mystic poetry, was on Wednesday killed by unidentified gunmen who shot him in the head in a targeted terror attack. Sabri (45) and an associate were travelling in a car in Karachi’s congested Liquatabad 10 area when two gunmen fired at their vehicle. Sabri was one of Pakistan’s finest qawwals. He was known as the "rockstar" of Qawali due to his modern style of rendition.
Fiqre Crockwell: The former Bermuda wicketkeeper Fiqre Crockwell died after being shot in Pembroke in the early hours of June 20. He was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The 30-year-old, who has played two one-day internationals, made his ODI debut against Kenya in 2009.
Christina Grimmie: American singer Christina Grimmie, who participated in the sixth season of reality TV show The Voice, died after being shot in the head at a concert venue in Orlando, on June 10. She was 22-years-old. The gunman reportedly shot at her and then killed himself after being tackled by the singer- songwriter’s brother. Grimmie was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died.
Jo Cox: The 41-year-old British woman MP from the opposition Labour Party was killed on June 16 after being shot and stabbed in her constituency in northern England by a man who shouted “put Britain first” twice before attacking her, a week before the crucial referendum on UK's EU membership. Labour MP Jo Cox was holding a meeting with constituents, in her local constituency when an altercation reportedly led to the attack.
Orlando shooting: A lone gunman, armed with an assault rifle, shot and killed 50 people and injured 53 others at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida on June 12, in the deadliest mass shooting in the US. The shooting started a little after 2 am. The alleged shooter, identified as Omar Siddique Mateen was killed. The deadly incident went on over a three-hour period.
Jaguar shot dead: A jaguar that was used for the Olympic torch ceremony was shot dead by a soldier just shortly after the event that was held in Manaus in Brazil's Amazon, on June 20. The animal, after escaping its handlers, went on to threaten a veterinarian. Soldiers used tranquilizer darts on the feline four times but failed to sustain the animal and hence, it had to be put down. The jaguar is the symbolic species in the Amazon. The jaguar was a 17-year-old named Juma and was raised since it was a cub. Earlier, the feline was photographed with the Olympic torch passing by.
