A COVID Care Centre being run at a marriage hall in Dongri has been shut down. What is heartening is that the furniture and other equipment that was being used there will be donated to Sir JJ Hospital by the BMC.

A report stated that the dismantling of Jumbo COVID Centres is on hold but the shutdown of the COVID Care Centres has started. There was equipment like regular beds, folding beds, 60 stools, 30 cardboard tables, 100 leather mattresses, pillows, linen, bathing necessities like buckets and mugs. All these are set to be donated to the hospital. Needy patients are going to benefit from this.

A lot of infra and equipment was bought for these centres. If this is given to the correct facility and continues to benefit the poor, it will surely be a task well done.

What we have to guard against is equipment going ‘missing’ or even other simple amenities being ‘unaccounted for’ when these centres are in the process of closing.

This has to be meticulously done with all property accounted for, checked and then stowed away, returned or the best, donated in the absolutely correct manner.

Actions like these while heartwarming are also huge confidence-building measures for the public. They witness how these are not pilfered or damaged but actually put to long-term use for those who need them the most.

Even private centres should consider donating this equipment, may not be to a hospital but elder care homes, hospice, charity institutes working for the sick, if needed. To dismantle and donate judiciously is the way.
