Narrow lanes, parking on roads and buildings with small gates spell time wastage and disaster in fire accidents. We need easier maneuverability to get to fires faster, and this is what the bikes will bring
A fire bike can carry about 40 litres of water, a pump and two firemen

We wish to see no more delays in procurement of these bikes, which need to be brought in simply because of the layout of this city.
Narrow lanes, parking on roads and buildings with small gates spell time wastage and disaster in fire accidents. We need easier maneuverability to get to fires faster, and this is what the bikes will bring.
How many times have we heard or read about deaths and destruction by fire, simply because vehicles or structures were blocking the way for fire engines?
There have also been attempts to upgrade firefighting technology or adapt according to the city’s needs. Spiffy high-rises now have firefighting systems installed within. In fact, every building has been asked that they have basic firefighting equipment. Certain passageways are to be kept free of obstruction so that it is easier to exit in case of fire. The fire authorities have bought taller ladders, as buildings go vertical with a vengeance to fight fires.
The changing dynamics and responses by fire authorities are good, and fire bikes are one more example of keeping up with the changing times.
Do not, however, leave everything to the fire authorities. Attend fire drills at workplaces and imbibe lessons. See that firefighting equipment in your building is in good condition and people know how to use it. Keep gangways and passages including common areas clear so that movement is quick in case of a fire. Try to see that gates are not blocked so that there is access to firefighting vehicles. Most of all, never fall into a complacent and dangerous trap that fire accidents cannot happen to me. Prepare on all fronts.
