A case was registered after a group of people held up a towing van on traffic police duty in Thane after it took action against vehicles parked haphazardly near Upvan lake.

The incident occurred on August 19 when action was being taken against vehicles parked at the spot, which is quite the weekend favourite for people. A group of people prevented the towing van from moving and heated arguments ensued with the staff. A press statement by the traffic police stated that the towing van staff showed the required permit and licence, yet, the people didn’t allow the van to proceed and threatened to attack them. They shot videos of the incident and circulated them on social media to malign the image of traffic police. The traffic police official supervising the towing operation lodged a complaint, following which offences were registered under various sections.

Altercations between the traffic police and vehicle drivers need to end. There have been frequent clashes, especially between towing vans and vehicle owners. This can escalate dangerously on the roads. One has also witnessed vehicle owners chase down towing vans hoping to get a foothold. One cannot have towing vans being blocked and threats of attacks. There is a police station for these matters and one has to take their grievance to law enforcers, If vehicle owners or drivers feel there has been any unfairness. Remember: these confrontations happen on the roads, so one is endangering other vehicle users or pedestrians when taking on the towing van personnel.

Always address any problem via the correct avenue. When drivers take on traffic personnel on our roads and threaten to attack them, the situation can spiral out of control and there is reason for booking those responsible for endangering lives.
