'When celebrities are admitted to an ICU, they trend on Twitter. But when Rajnikanth is admitted, the ICU becomes a trending topic too.' That comment, by a certain Makarand Chandwadkar, said it all.

The superstar was admitted to Chennai's Sri Ramachandra Hospital for respiratory and gastro-intestinal problems, and fans promptly clogged timelines with hourly updates.

I found this tweet by Arun George particularly interesting: 'I think the only time news outlets care about South India is when they have elections or if something happens to Rajnikanth.' I really hope that isn't true.

Long arm of the law
Thanks to a few helpful Customs officials, actress Minissha Lamba was reportedly given a lesson on what can and cannot be brought into the country. Her detention at Mumbai airport for carrying jewellery led Shobhaa De to say this: 'Poor Minissha: Lamba race ki ghodi or lame duck? Warning to other Bollywood wannabes to leave those borrowed rocks at home. Dazzle with your talent.' Starlets, please note.

Speaking of fans

The last word

What would we do without Lata Mangeshkar? When she isn't making our lives easier to handle with her golden voice, she uses Twitter to dole out tweets like this: 'If Columbus had turned back, no one would have blamed him. Of course, no one would have remembered him either ufffd'
