The victim should approach the police at the very first instance to help nip this practice in the bud.
It's pointless to involve the police only after the matter gets out of hand.
Ragging is a criminal offense and just like any other crime, the police must get involved in the initial stages.
It's better to be safe than sorry. Once a complaint is registered against an identified person, the police will interrogate him and this will discourage him from bullying other students in the future. This is the only way to get rid of the menace.
Approaching the principal, warden and parents is sure to backfire as in most cases this only antagonises the miscreants.
However, when the police get involved even hardened criminals breakdown, so taming mischievous youth should not be such a task.
Also, the image of the police force has been overhauled. No longer are they the monsters they were considered to be. They are approachable and can find a solution to this problem.
