Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima along with 9 others were killed in plane crash on June 11th. Colleen Samba, the president`s secretary, confirmed the tragic news on X. The Office of the President and Cabinet issued a formal statement detailing about the accident. Following a massive search operation, the missing plane was found in Chikangawa Forest, with all its occupants dead. Earlier on 10th of June, the news of Malawi’s Vice President along with 9 other state official missing, broke on internet. Malawi’s Office of the President said that Chilima was aboard on a Malawi Defence Force aircraft that left Lilongwe at 09:17 a.m on 10th June. Following this, the official statement stated that efforts were made to connect with the Aircraft. However, air traffic control lost contact with the aircraft and it disappeared from radar a short time later. According to the official statement, The aircraft was scheduled to land at the Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02 a.m. on 10th June. Chilima who was 51 had been vice president since 2014. He earlier led the mobile network Airtel Malawi, as well as worked at Unilever, Coca Cola and Carlsberg, according to his profile on the government’s website.
