Pro-Khalistan protesters disrupted External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar`s UK visit on March 5, 2025, staging a demonstration outside Chatham House during his discussion. The protestors, carrying flags and using loudspeakers, chanted slogans as Jaishankar participated in a talk at the prestigious think tank. As Jaishankar was leaving the venue after the discussion, a man ran towards his car and tore the Indian national flag in front of police officers, escalating the situation into a security breach. Jaishankar`s visit included important meetings with UK officials. He met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Foreign Secretary David Lammy, as well as holding talks with Home Secretary Yvette Cooper. The discussions focused on combating trafficking and extremism. A spokesperson from the Ministry of External Affairs condemned the actions of the Khalistani extremists, calling it a misuse of democratic freedoms. The spokesperson also emphasized that the UK government should uphold its diplomatic obligations in such cases. Jaishankar, on his social media, praised his meeting with Home Secretary Cooper, highlighting the joint efforts to tackle extremism. This visit follows similar protests by pro-Khalistan groups in the UK, such as in January when extremists protested outside the Indian High Commission and earlier disruptions in Harrow over the film Emergency. Pro-Khalistan protests have become more frequent in the UK, with recent incidents targeting diplomatic and cultural spaces.
