Paris Olympics 2024: India beat Great Britain 4-2 in shootout, Know the man behind the win

Veteran custodian PR Sreejesh emerged as a hero as India pulled off a nail-biting 4 to 2 win in the shoot-out against Great Britain on 4th august at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 36 year old veteran made several crucial saves, including key stops during the penalty shootout, helping India secure a thrilling win in the quarterfinals. With 328 international caps and appearances at three Olympic Games, Sreejesh is competing in his fourth and final Olympics in Paris, having announced his retirement after these Games. Born on May 8, 1986, in Ernakulam, Kerala, Sreejesh comes from a farming family and initially trained in sprinting, volleyball, and long jump before switching to hockey on his coach’s advice. He made his junior international debut in 2004 against Australia and his senior debut at the 2006 South Asian Games. Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey praised Sreejesh’s performance, calling him the “god of Indian Hockey.” Sreejesh’s wife Aneeshya also praised his game and expressed hope for a gold medal this time.
