In an interview, Dr. Tapas Pramanik, who was on duty in the Emergency Department on August 9, detailed issues with how the case was handled. Dr. Pramanik explained that while he was on duty from 8 pm to 8 am, no one reported any incident. Around 11:45 am, he received a message about a woman’s death, later identified as a suspected rape and murder. Dr. Pramanik noted that the protocol required the body to be moved to the Emergency Ward for confirmation of death by the Emergency Medical Officer. However, this was not followed; instead, the body was handled differently. There was a delay of 2-3 hours before the death certificate was issued at 12:44 pm. Dr. Pramanik raised concerns about the absence of proper custodians, delays, and the presence of other doctors at the crime scene. He questioned why no one noticed or reported the crime sooner. The Kolkata rape horror that took place on 9th August shook the entire nation.
