The suspense over who will become the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra continues, with Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena and Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP as the top contenders. Both leaders are vying for the post after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), including the BJP, Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, won a strong victory in the 2024 state elections. The alliance secured 235 out of 288 seats, with the BJP winning 131 seats, Shiv Sena getting 57, and NCP capturing 41. Eknath Shinde resigned as Maharashtra Chief Minister on Tuesday, becoming caretaker CM until a new government is formed. The Mahayuti alliance has not yet decided on the next leader.
