Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani recently announced that the state proposed to rename dragon fruit as ‘Kamalam’. Rupani said that dragon fruit “does not sound appropriate” for the fruit. On the contrary, the word ‘Kamalam’ which is a Sanskrit word is apt because the characteristic fuchsia ‘petals’ of the fruit look like a lotus in bloom.
