Gusty winds with moderate rainfall, were witnessed in parts of southern Andhra on December 05 as Cyclone Michaung is likely to make landfall near the southern coast of Andhra`s Nellore and Machilipatnam today. As per the weather department, Cyclone Michaung, centered over the west coast of the Bay of Bengal, off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts, is likely to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast in the form of a severe cyclonic storm. Cyclonic storm Michaung is set to make landfall near Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh on December 5 around noon. Michaung’s wind speed is anticipated to reach severe cyclonic levels, with a maximum sustained speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph. Yesterday, an orange alert was given by IMD for Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts as cyclone Michaung approached the South Andhra coast. Meanwhile, as rain lashed Chennai several areas of Chennai and its neighboring districts were inundated due to which public life was severely affected. Several trees were uprooted as strong winds swept Tamil Nadu on December 04 subways were closed due to severe waterlogging in Chennai.
