A day after CAA was implemented in India, AASU on March 12, held a massive protest march against the law. The march was led by Assam Students` Union chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya. Holding bamboo torches, placards and posters, the massive crowd raised slogans against the Government. Samujjal Bhattacharya during the protest called CAA to be communal, unconstitutional, anti-India, anti-northeast. Notably, Union Home Ministry on March 11 notified rules for implementation of CAA days ahead of LS Polls 2024. The Act aims to confer Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians who migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and arrived in India before December 31, 2014.
