A 35-foot statue of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj collapsed at Rajkot Fort in Malvan, Maharashtra, on August 26, 2024. The statue, which was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 4, 2023, during Navy Day celebrations, fell around 1 p.m. The incident occurred amidst heavy rains and strong winds that have affected the Sindhudurg district over the past few days. Experts are currently investigating the cause of the collapse. In response to the incident, Maharashtra State Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar visited the site on August 27 to inspect the damage. He described the event as an accident. BJP leader Nilesh N. Rane also arrived for an inspection.
