On February 1, 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for 2025-26, marking her eighth consecutive budget. Key announcements included changes in income tax slabs to provide relief to taxpayers. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that No income tax will need to be paid on income up to Rs 12 lakh for salaried people. In addition, the Finance Minister announced plans to introduce a new income tax bill which she mentioned will be clearer, simpler and more direct. The government introduced the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana to support farmers, and a focus on achieving self-reliance in pulses production.
