Marking another day in the history of J&K, the Supreme Court on Dec 11 upheld the abrogation of Article 370. The SC’s Constitution Bench unanimously upheld the abrogation of Article 370 which gave special status to J&K. A 5-Judge bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud pronounced the Article 370 verdict and called Article 370 “Temporary Provision”. Home Minister Amit Shah welcomed the SC’s verdict and said, “It proves, Govt’s decision was constitutional”. Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019 in both houses. Notably, Supreme Court asked the Election Commission to hold J&K Assembly elections by Sept 2024. On August 5, 2019, the Central Government announced the revocation of the special status of J&K granted under Article 370.
