Modi criticised past Congress governments for neglecting India’s rich cultural heritage after Independence. He emphasised that every nation values its heritage, but India had fallen behind in this respect.
The Prime Minister mentioned that invaders tried to destroy India's identity before Independence, and a "slave mindset" continued this after Independence, moving the country away from its roots.
Modi highlighted that his government’s policies are based on the teachings of Lord Buddha. He suggested that the world, facing instability and insecurity, could find peace by following Buddha's principles.
The Prime Minister stated that the teachings of Buddha are relevant and essential today. He emphasised that solutions to global conflicts lie in following Buddha, not in war.
Modi spoke about India moving forward with self-confidence and pride, breaking away from an inferiority complex. This shift has led to bold decisions, including the recognition of Pali and Marathi as classical languages.
Modi paid tribute to B R Ambedkar, who converted to Buddhism. He noted that his government is focused on developing places associated with Ambedkar and Buddhism, highlighting their importance to Indian society.
Modi reminded people that Buddha’s teachings were originally preserved in the Pali language. He encouraged efforts to preserve the language, which is not widely spoken today.
Modi also extended greetings to the public on the occasion of Sharad Purnima and Valmiki Jayanti, recognising these important cultural celebrations.
