The Bhaderwah-Basholi-Pathankot National Highway's restoration has increased tourist footfall in Bhaderwah, particularly at the Guldanda meadow, located at nearly 10,000 feet altitude. Over 5 lakh tourists visited various parts of Bhaderwah last year, as per the Bhaderwah Development Authority.
Tourists flock to Guldanda after heavy snowfall, making it a popular destination for visitors from across the country. Seasonal rest has overtaken Kashmiri saffron fields and apple orchards, while local markets thrive with Pashmina shawls, woollen garments, traditional foods, and hot Kahwa.
Winter sports have turned places like Gulmarg into hubs for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. The "Heemal Nagrai" Winter Carnival in Shopian district celebrated Kashmiri culture and traditions through music, dance, martial arts, and winter sports.
The carnival encouraged outdoor engagement and physical fitness through activities like snowshoeing and sledging. The event fostered community bonding and offered families and friends an opportunity to reconnect during the winter season.
Local artisans and performers participated in the carnival, providing a vibrant platform to showcase Kashmiri heritage. The winter carnival boosted the local economy by attracting visitors and tourists, benefitting small businesses and vendors in rural areas.
