The incident unfolded tragically on Saturday, where 12 individuals lost their lives due to the intense fire at the shop-cum-godown. Two more victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment on Sunday.
CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, on Sunday, visited the site of fire and hospital where the injured persons are undergoing treatment and interacted with them.
He addressed the media, emphasizing that action would be taken based on the investigation's findings. He highlighted the importance of examining whether the firecracker warehouse had adhered to necessary precautionary and safety measures to prevent such a catastrophic incident.
To address the gravity of the situation, the local police have initiated legal proceedings by registering an FIR against the warehouse owner and other individuals involved in the establishment. Notably, the owner's son has been taken into custody by law enforcement authorities.
Tragically, a significant number of the victims in this horrific incident were reported to be from Tamil Nadu, further adding to the complexity of the situation.
Karnataka government has announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh to be provided to the families and next of kin of the deceased.
