Leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Harsimrat Kaur Badal, stated on Friday that the new Central administration ought to concentrate on resolving the complaints of the farmers and keeping the commitments that were previously given to them. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to take oath for the third successive term in office on June 9, sources said.

In Prime Minister Modi's ministry, Harsimrat Kaur Badal served as Minister of Food Processing Industries from 2014 until 2020. She stated that Punjabis should not be classified as "atankwadi" (terrorists).

"I urge union govt to focus on farmer grievances and fulfil the promises made. No one should be allowed to label Punjabis as atankwadi or ugarwadi and fan communal divisions. Punjabis are foremost patriots, serving the nation on the borders and as food providers. We deserve better," Harsimrat Kaur Badal posted on X.

On September 17, 2020, Harsimrat Kaur Badal announced her resignation from the Union Cabinet in protest over three measures pertaining to agriculture that the Centre had brought forth at the time.

Results of the Lok Sabha elections, which were announced on June 4, showed that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had won a third consecutive term in power.

The Election Commission of India said on Tuesday that the BJP had secured 240 seats while the Congress secured 99 seats. In the general elections of 2014, the BJP won 282 seats, and in the general elections of 2019, it won 303 seats.

Wednesday's NDA meeting was the first of its sort since the alliance's victory for a majority. The coalition's unity was strengthened by the presence of Narendra Modi at the meeting alongside senior leaders of the NDA and Bharatiya Janata Party.

The NDA leaders have reposed faith in Modi and chose him as the leader of the alliance, paving the way for him to become the PM for the third straight time.

Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu dissolved the 17th Lok Sabha on Wednesday after the recommendation of the Union Cabinet.
