A week after 8 people fell from a moving train when some colour was flung at them, another victim of the incident, Deepak Gaikwad, succumbed to his injuries on Monday
This year’s Holi horror has claimed another life. Deepak Gaikwad succumbed to his injuries yesterday. The Gaikwad family is still struggling to find Deepak’s picture for the last rites as his wallet, watch and mobile are still missing after the accident.

MiD DAY had reported last week (‘Holi-gan horror’) how eight unsuspecting people had fallen from a moving Central Railway (CR) train on March 24, after a yellow powder was flung at them. Deepak (34) was one of the eight victims and the third to have lost his life in the incident. Of the eight passengers, one was brought dead to the hospital and two, including Gaikwad were critical. One of them, 21-year-old Sriniwas Suntanul passed away on the day following the incident.
Deepak’s elder brother Dharamgyan Gaikwad said, “I was not aware of the accident till the next morning and even after visiting the hospital I couldn’t believe that my brother was in the ICU.” Deepak, who worked at a petrol pump in Pune, visited Mumbai over weekends to spend time with his family in Bandra. He was heading towards Parel to catch up with friends on that fateful day. “His belongings have either been stolen or lost, and we are still looking for his photograph,” Dharamgyan added. The family is also upset with the medical treatment that Deepak received in hospital.
“The least the government can do is provide better medical facilities. The railways should think of giving jobs to the victims and their kin,” Deepak’s 70-year-old father, Pandurang Gaikwad said. The Government Railway Police (GRP) is yet to nab the culprits and no arrests have been made in this case. Copspeak GS Bhandare, DCP, GRP, said, “We’re looking for the culprits and will arrest them soon.”
