Veteran violinist Dr N Rajam, along with her daughter Sangeeta Shankar and granddaughters Nandini and Ragini, stole the show on the concluding day of the Sawai Gandharv Sangeet Mahotsav.

Veteran violinist Dr N Rajam, along with her daughter Sangeeta Shankar and granddaughters Nandini and Ragini, stole the show on the concluding day of the Sawai Gandharv Sangeet Mahotsav. They gave grand performance of Rag Jog with Ajit Pathak supporting them on tabla.u00a0





As Dr N Rajan is from Chennai also performed a bhajan and two Natya Sangeet dhoons on violins, the smitten audience give the artiste a standing ovation and demanded them to perform 'once more'.u00a0

The curtain came down on the show with the performance of Dr Prabha Atre, the senior most singer from late Pandi Bhimsen Joshi's Kirana Gharana.u00a0

Earlier, young singer Omkar Dadarkar made his first performance by singing a favorite Bhajan 'Baje Murlaiya Baaje' followed by a Thumari by Padma Deshpande. Dr Nagrajan Hawaldar sung Raag Yaman. A short film on Vatsalabai Joshi and Pt Bhimsen Joshi was shown in the evening.u00a0

Shankar Mahadevan's tribute to Late Bhimsen Joshiu00a0Shankar Mahadevan took the audience in thrall of Carnatic classical music on the third day of the fest. He took the audience to a pleasant surprise when he paid a tribute to Panditiji and his guru Shriniwas Kahale by belting out Maze Maher Pandhari and earned a standing ovation.u00a0



He was supported on tabala by Bharat Kamat who has performed with Panditiji for 18 years. Earlier, Kumar Mardur, a first-timer at the fest, started the day's session with Raag Multani. He was followed by sitarist Kartik Seshadri, disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. The day ended with the performance of the stalwart, Pandit Jasraj.u00a0
Day four started off with the performance of Yojana Shivanand,a first-timer at the fest. She was followed by Late Pundit Bhimsen Joshi's son Shrinivas Joshi. He started his performance with Raag Puriya Dhanashree and ended with abhang ( devotional song) Kanhoba Tuzi Ghongdi Changli. He was also appreciated by the audience. After his performance there was a visual treat to the audience when Bharatnatyam dancers performed to the tune of Panditji's bhajans to pay tribute to the legend. Nritya Niketan was formed by Bharatnatyam exponents Sudhir Rao and his elder sister Laxmi Gururaj. On this occasion the Bharatnatyam was being performed on Hindustani classical music instead of Carnatic classical music to pay tribute to Panditiji. The session for the forth day was concluded by the impressive performance of Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.u00a0
