Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Sandip Govind Mane, who was the victim of a brutal assault carried by four persons, who hit him with iron rods and swords, feels sheer luck enabled him to escape with his life. He received injuries to his head and right palm, after which the attackers fled. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Sion hospital.
The Wadala TT Police have arrested 3 accused, who have been sent to judicial custody by the Bhoiwada court, and are on the lookout for the fourth.
According to a report by The Indian Express, the foursome were reportedly threatening a shop keeper when Mane arrived with two beat marshalls in tow, after receiving a complaint of disturbance in Bharatiya Kamala Nagar. Mane was patrolling the Antop Hill area in Wadala East at that time. On reaching the spot and while trying to intervene in the situation he was brutally beaten with iron rods and swords. The two beat marshalls, who had accompanied Mane were also injured.
PSI Sandip Govind Mane revealed that the incident happened in a very narrow lane at around 3.15 am, it was very dark. The accused, Faiyaz Wasim Ahmed Sheikh (25), his brother Mohammad Sadiq (20) and their mother Habibunisa (48) were picked up on Monday, while a third brother, Faisal Wasim Ahmed Sheikh (20) is currently on the run.
