An extremely religious youth, who wanted his sister-in-law to avoid wearing modern western clothes, hatched a plan to defame her when he failed in convincing her to do so.

The youth, Unni Krishnan,23, a self proclaimed preist from Kerala managed to save her pictures from her Facebook account and then edited them by writing obscene notes below her pictures and made them viral on social media. This was in a bid to teach her a lesson which would stop her from wearing western outfits.

After a month and a half of investigations, he has been arrested from Kerala by the Bhandup police and was brought to Mumbai late on Friday night. The 26-year-old victim is an MBS student who came to Mumbai to pursue her studies and was living with her parents in Bhandup. She was married in December 2014 and her husband current works in the Gulf.

On May 30, she approached the Bhandup police with a complaint that someone went viral with her pictures and unknown people began posting obscene comments. The police, after registering an FIR, launched investigations which included tracing the IP address of the pictures origin from where they were posted first.

The cops learned that they were first posted from Kerala and further learned that Unni Krishanan had some differences with his sister-in-law. After zeroing in on the suspect, the cops found out that Unni Krishanan had created another Facebook account and shared the victims pictures with various unknown facebook friends which led to them doing the rounds on social media. However, by the end of May, the victim received a call from her friend who informed her about her pictures on social media the comments which were posted in Malyalam.

A police officer said, "Since the initial comments were in Malayalam language we suspected someone from her native had played this up. Further on tracing the IP address and questioning a few people we zeroed on Unni Krishanan who revealed that he wanted the victim, his cousin sister-in-law to be religious, to wear sarees rather western clothes and wanted to teach her a lesson. He was produced in the court and has been remanded in Police custody till July 18."
