No victory processions allowed in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

The district authorities in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have banned victory processions on Saturday when the results of the Maharashtra elections 2024 will be declared. District collector Dilip Swami held a meeting with top police officials on Friday, a day before the counting of votes. In a video message released after the meeting, Swami said, "I have spoken to the top police officials from the city as well as rural parts of the district. When the results come out, the situation turns a little tense. So in order to avoid law and order issues, we are not going to allow any victory procession on the result day." "Sometimes, party workers come together and sometimes their coming together turns into a procession. We are not going to allow that also. Later, once everything is peaceful, we will allow the processions. We have issued prohibitory orders accordingly," he said. The counting of votes for the state assembly elections held on November 20 began at 8 am on Saturday. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar

Centre must arrest Adani to save India's reputation, says Karnataka Dy CM

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government of protecting industrialist Gautam Adani, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President DK Shivakumar on Friday called for his arrest to save the country's reputation. Addressing a press conference at the KPCC office, he said, "Our leader Rahul Gandhi has been highlighting corruption by industrialist Adani. Despite that, investigative agencies have not taken any action." "An American Court has indicted Adani in connection with irregularities in a green energy project. The Centre must take this seriously and bring him to book. The BJP government has arrested many Opposition leaders including chief ministers, why can't it arrest an industrialist," he questioned. "There is no point in protecting Adani. The government has to protect the people of the country who have invested thousands of crores in Adani's companies," he urged. Asked about BJP leaders challenging the Congress government to attach Adani's assets in Karnataka, he said, "Let the Union government initiate an inquiry and communicate to the state government to take action, then we will take suitable action here." Replying to a query if the State government would cancel Adani Group's Rs 20,000 crore investments in the state, he said, "We are not against any investment which is clean. We will discuss this during the Invest Karnataka event." Meanwhile, Opposition parties on Thursday pressed for a JPC probe into alleged bribery allegations with Congress leader Jairam Ramesh alleging that a key player in the "corruption scandal" is the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a Government of India company. The Adani Group has denied the allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission against directors of Adani Green. While the BJP said the law will take its course and slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. MVA will win with majority, CM face to be decided after results, says Congress

Expressing confidence in the outcome of the Maharashtra elections 2024, state Congress in-charge Ramesh Chennithala on Friday said that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would form the government with a majority. He added that the Chief Minister's post would be decided after the poll results are announced, reported news agency ANI. "Maha Vikas Aghadi will form the government in the state with a majority... The CM face will be decided after the results, and a discussion will be held," Ramesh Chennithala told ANI. Taking a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he claimed that the people of the state had voted against the 'jod tod ki sarkar' (government of defections). Meanwhile, the State's Chief Electoral Officer, S Chockalingam, lauded the efforts of Election Commission officers and employees, stating that the ECI had given "focus, attention and time" to the Maharashtra elections 2024. "The Election Commission of India devoted significant focus, attention, and time to Maharashtra this time. Every strategy was meticulously conceptualised and implemented, leading to a substantial increase in the voter list between the Parliamentary elections and the current elections. Efforts were made to simplify voting, especially in Mumbai, where we faced challenges during the Parliamentary elections, but this time everyone praised the arrangements," he said, reported ANI. "A great deal of work has been done. The Election Commission thanks all voters who came out to vote, ensuring history was made. We achieved a 5 per cent increase in voter turnout. Nearly six lakh officers and employees worked diligently to facilitate voting and ensure the process was smooth," he added, reported ANI. In Maharashtra, the BJP is in alliance with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party under the Mahayuti banner. The ruling Mahayuti faces a tough contest against the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, comprising the Congress, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP. A minimum of 145 seats is required to secure a majority in the 288-seat assembly. (With inputs from ANI)

Gopal Rai on late-night inspection, monitors implementation of GRAP-4 measures

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai conducted a late-night inspection in Delhi's border areas to review the enforcement of GRAP-4 anti-pollution measures and said 135 to 165 trucks violating the restrictions are being turned away daily. "Late tonight, visited the Narela/Singhu border and inspected the implementation of GRAP-4," Rai posted on X. Speaking at site, Rai said that complaints have been received about unauthorised vehicles being allowed entry at Delhi's borders. "Today, we received multiple complaints about unauthorised vehicles entering Delhi through various borders without being checked. That's why we came here to inspect the situation," Rai said. During the inspection late Friday night, Rai said that between 135 to 165 trucks are being turned away daily from November 18 at Delhi's borders for violating the restrictions imposed under Graded Response Action Plan-4. Only CNG, electric, and BS-VI compliant vehicles are allowed entry into the city, while all other trucks are banned to reduce pollution levels, the minister said. He added that strict penalties are being imposed on violators. "Those who fail to comply are being fined," he said. Rai also appealed to truck owners and drivers to follow the restrictions, emphasising that the ban is necessary to tackle Delhi's severe air pollution. He also issued strict instructions to officials to ensure no lapses occur in enforcement. "As long as GRAP-4 is in place, all measures must be strictly followed. There should be no negligence in its implementation," he directed. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. PM Modi, Centre shielding Gautam Adani: Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday urged the Centre to immediately take action against billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani, following his indictment in the US in a bribery case. Accusing PM Narendra Modi and his government of shielding Adani, he said the Congress will raise the issue during the upcoming Parliament session and demand an inquiry into the charges. “We will raise the issue in the Parliament and we will demand an inquiry. As he (Adani) is in India, action should be taken against him, he should be arrested. The government knows everything, so they should quickly take action against him in corruption cases,” Kharge told reporters here. Adani has been charged by US prosecutors for allegedly being part of an elaborate scheme to pay $265 million (about R2,200 crore) bribe to Indian officials in exchange for favourable terms for solar power contracts. Adani, and seven others, including his nephew Sagar, have been charged by the US Department of Justice with paying bribes to unidentified officials of state governments in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha to buy expensive solar power, potentially earning more than USD 2 billion in profit over 20 years. 10 Maoists gunned down by security forces in Chhattisgarh

Ten Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Friday, a senior police official said. The gunfight broke out in the morning in a forest within the jurisdiction of the Bhejji police station when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Maoist operation, said Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P. The operation was launched based on inputs about the presence of Maoists belonging to Konta and Kistaram area committees of Naxalites on forested hills of Korajguda, Dantespuram, Nagaram and Bhandarpadar villages, he said. A cache of weapons, including an INSAS rifle, an AK-47 rifle and a Self Loading Rifle (SLR), were seized from the spot. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai praised security forces and asserted that his government's priority is to establish peace, facilitate development and ensure the safety of citizens in the Bastar region. “Security forces gunned down 10 Naxalites in a major operation in Sukma district this morning. The state government has been working on the policy of zero tolerance towards Naxalism. Ensuring development, peace and safety of citizens in Bastar is the top priority of the state government. The era of peace, development and progress has returned to Bastar,” Sai said in a statement. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. After bribery charges against Adani-Azure Power, Cong demands JPC probe

The Assam Congress on Saturday demanded that investment by Azure Power, which has been charged along with Gautam Adani by US prosecutors for allegedly bribing Indian officials for obtaining solar power contracts, in the state be brought under the purview of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) sought by opposition parties to look into the allegations against the billionaire businessman. State party president Bhupen Kumar Borah claimed that there is a possibility of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma receiving illegal financial gratifications while awarding the solar power projects in the state to Azure Power, which were inaugurated two years ago. Addressing a press conference here, Borah said, “Our party has already demanded a JPC to look into the charges against Adani. We demand that Azure Power’s projects in Assam also be brought under the purview of the JPC when it is formed.” Congress' national president Mallikarjun Kharge said on Friday that a comprehensive JPC probe into all aspects of the Adani group's functioning, including its investments in foreign countries, and institutional erosion in India is the need of the hour. Party leader Rahul Gandhi had also sought Adani’s immediate arrest, claiming that it is now established in the US that the businessman has broken Indian as well as American laws. Adani and seven others have been charged by the US Department of Justice with paying bribes to unidentified officials of state governments in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha to buy expensive solar power, potentially earning more than USD 2 billion in profit over 20 years. According to the indictment, Adani Green Energy - the renewable energy arm of the group - in 2021 won a tender to supply 8 gigawatts of solar power to the government-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). New Delhi-based Azure Power, whose officials too have been named along with former executives of Canadian public pension fund manager CDPQ in the case, won a similar 4 GW tender. Referring to Azure Power’s projects in Assam, the state Congress president claimed that illegal gratifications may have been received by the chief minister for clearing these projects. “Gautam Adani had come to Assam and met our Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in February 2022. In July of that year, the state government entered into an agreement with Azure Power to procure electricity from it for 25 years. “Going by the findings of the US probe, we have room to believe that bribes were paid here also. We demand that the JPC sought by opposition parties at the Centre to look into Adani’s dealings also probes Azure Power’s projects in Assam,” Borah added. Projects spread across four districts of Udalguri, Boko, Nagaon and Cachar, and generating a total of 90 MW of solar power were inaugurated by Sarma in July 2022, as per a company release. Borah, however, expressed scepticism over the BJP-led Central government acting against Adani. “No action will be taken against Adani, we know that. But Congress will soon expose with evidence the illegal dealings of Adani,” he added. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies.
